Digital Talent Stamp by RebeccaStapp Digital Talent Stamp by RebeccaStapp
Just a really simple stamp. I'm not in the mood to study. Bad Becca. :XD:

Inspired by the fact that people who think digital artists have no talent really piss me off. :pissed: People who think it's all point and click and voila! Art. Stfu. No.

The only difference is we have an undo button. Got. It. Memorized?

Feel free to use in your journals!

Composed in Photoshop.
Animated in ImageReady.

Traditional art is misunderstood more because it is for "amateurs"

I have to disagree...most "professional" artists that I know work with traditional media. Traditional media certainly seems to sell better, for example, where pet portraits are concerned.

Speaking of people saying digital artist so t have talent. My friend calls it cheating and that it really isn't art! That really pissed me off. She kept dissing me and all of the digital artist out there! This world is filled with digital art. Guess how cereal boxes are made and a whole bunch of stuff!
So one day I said. Try it! I invited her to my house to try out digital art and she took her words back right away. She couldn't even write her name! Now she gives digital artist full respect.

Ummm no. Not everyone can do digital art.  Have you tried it for yourself even?! It hard and takes practice.

Hmm... Is that just like "Anyone can draw manga well"? :hmm: Because after a quick stroll through certain galleries, I have to say otherwise...

So true, I hate when people say that digital art is worth less than traditional art. You still have to learn the basics of anatomy, colour theory, etc… you are just using a different medium.

:iconfacepalmplz: since when? okay, maybe traditional art allows you to correct your errors easier than with trad. but still... when you draw on a tablet or with paper and pen, it's almost the same, except the undo button :/ and the coloring goes faster and with some programms it's indeed easier to color and shade, but this doesn't mean digital art is less than trad.! they are both good on their own way! i'm a digital drawer, and i can say, i tip my had for the ones who make such epic art on digital programs as far as having a DD! it's not as easy as many would think! it's easy if you get it and know how to use all the tools, but it's still pretty complex and it takes an endless time to understand, learn, and get used to! so for those who say digital art isn't art, they should go and use photoshop or Adobe Cs5 and THEN we can talk -_-
sorry forthe rant, but this really gets me angry :(

I have a friend online who believes that...I showed him an artist who does great digital work and he said he'd smoke her anyday, I argued and then he challenged me to do stuff he does. I'm a cartoonist, he's a realism guy. BTW, AGREED!

well i'd like to see his result after trying to make digital art for the first time ;) my dad is an art teacher and even he used to nag on my digital drawings, saying it was easy with all the tools and programs, i gave him my tablet and asked him to draw a realistic cat, he gave up quickly on it xD

Yeah, so would I...I said something like that, plus he over-reacted when I said that anyone can pick up a pencil and do traditional...and he challenged me to beat his work and if I did, he'd buy the equipment. This sucker is in galleries. I believe he and all the other Trad-snobs are actually intimidated by the prowess of digital. Yes, not so easy once ya try it, eh? That's why i'm pro-trad and digital. :)

well i wouldn't go that hard on it and pretend that anyone can pick up a pencil and draw, i know ppl who really tried hard and just couldn't draw, i guess some ppl can do do it and other just can't :) it's a matter of taste and how you feel at easy on what you choose, whether traditional or digital, i feel at ease for both xD

True, some people can't, but stick figures still count as traditional if used with a pencil! LOL Yeah, both can produce excellent results. :)

For the record, digital artists who use sparkly effects and crap to distract from mediocre drawing skills are a dime a dozen. ;)

You can also say exactly the same thing about traditional artists. ;) There are plenty of tricks that can be applied to traditional art to "distract from mediocre drawing skills."

But again, who is to say that artfully applying those effects is not a skill or talent in itself?

In my opinion digital art is a completely different kind of art than traditional like like dogs and cats some similarities and many seen/unseen differences
though i also think in a way traditional is harder sorry

It is different. But then watercolor is different from pencil is different from oil is different from sculpting is different from music is different from poetry, etc, etc. It's all art. None of it just poofs into being on it's own; an artist must create it.
As for saying traditional art is harder, that's like wondering if it is more difficult to be a good mother or a good father. The statement here is not that digital artists are more talented than [insert any medium here] artists, it is simply that digital artists are still artists and therefore deserve to have their talents recognized on a scale equal to that of any other artist.

Did you feel that, I did, that was me getting knocked down 3 levels. but I never said that digital artists are more talented to me their just as talented as any other. I just wanted to say that I dont like traditional art being compared to digital art because I find it the same as comparing pottery to sculpture. I have nothing against you or digital art in fact im taking a class for it right now lol I was just sayin....

A very good article, thanks for sharing. There will always be negative commenters airing their negative opinions, and of course that is their right. I think they even make some very good points...in some aspects, digital is more forgiving - if not "easier" - than traditional. But it's still art.

That's true. Obviously you need to have skills in order to make a masterpiece like any other artist.

However I love traditional because I can get messy, my mediums are tangible, and I do have to say one thing, some things can't be erased as easily as you can click a undo button, sometimes if you mess up well you mess up and you have to improvise, haha and I suppose I like that challenge, that risk. :)

Any who sorry people can be insensitive, you'll probably run into more- but that's life everyone has to deal with it, sadly. At least you can see there are other people who are relating to you.

Oh yes, I've run into those people quite often. :) It doesn't particularly bother me as much now. It's more of a "meh, to each their own" reaction.

its true that when using a tablet your hands still must be trained to move in the right ways,
to do what your mind has imagined, although i never tried using a tablet (bangs head against wall)
it must be the same as doing it traditionally :o

It is pretty similar to doing traditional art, but there are some effects that you simply cannot recreate as effectively with digital art. Definitely worth giving it a shot if you have never tried it before though. :)

If digital artists had nothing regarding to art, then everyone who owns photoshop would be *greatamazingwonderful* artists!! >_> The only difference is that the media is virtual and not paper/canvas...

and that's a traditional artist saying that :giggle:
