Description

This was intended to be prize art for a contest winner, and I still may rework it into the prize, but somewhere along the way it turned into Cameo.

Mane and forelock suck because I'm impatient when painting hair. Quite pleased with the facial structure and overall texture. I tried out the charcoal brush that came with PS and I'm really surprised how much it mimics actual charcoal. Took a little getting used to, but I think I'll be trying more of the "traditional media" brushes in the future. :aww:

I wish I had kept better track of time on this one. Sadly, it was mostly done during commercials and while waiting on rp posts, lol. Yay for multitasking.

C&C welcome.

Ahhh. Now this is refreshing to see a baby Cameo. I knew who she was as soon as I saw the thumbnail in my watch box. Kudos to you, she looks great - and for something you did multitasking, the piece itself looks brilliant.

As critiques, I can really only make mention your symmetry -everything else is quite pleasing. The upper temple on the foal's left looks more pronounced than the right side's. I don't think it's just from this angle, because the far side's temple should be prominent and high off the face, under the foal's right ear base.

I'd like to also bring to your attention the symmetry of the marking itself on Cameo's face. I don't know if it was intentional to this particular painting of her or not, but the far side looks slightly wider than the nearer side. While the near side of the marking runs along the prominent bone of her bridge, (which would lead me to be more correct because of the perspective) the far side boundary of the marking isn't in view. Now this may only be minor, but it is highlighted by the marking extending further sideways than the corner of the eye.

Her little muzzle is very foal like, smaller and more delicate than the rest of her face, very nicely shaped and quite true to foals. I'd watch out though with putting little folds of wrinkles in between the nostrils there. The skin is tight over that area and the nostrils flare out without making little wrinkles. It's different in an older horse because the skin has grown and become looser.

Having said the above, I think it is a beautiful piece of your character. The way you've textured the soft, downy fur around the bases of the ears is just exquisite. Ear length and shading on both the inside and outside is quite a pleasure to see too. I also like, just while we're in that general area, the star in the middle of her forehead, it's not a &#039erfect' diamond - there is hair direction and transition between the light and dark hair. Very nice, Bec.

The neck is also a great shape from this perspective, the muscle tone is spot on according to how you've softly brought it out through your highlighting and shading.

Overall, a beautiful portrait of your character in her younger days. Praise to you Bec, this is a really nice piece. Well done.
